Small Objects
David Gerstein communicates the joys of life through his art. Joys that speak to a large audience and as he believes should be accessible to all. For the sake of his deep belief of 'art for all' Gerstein started a collection of Art Objects including useful objects and miniature sculptures stamped with his design logo to allow a wider range of people to access fine art. Through his Art Objects collection, Gerstein broke the typical boundaries of fine art, surpassing the frontiers of accessibility.
Each Art Object is a charming masterpiece, celebrating the joy of doodling and spontaneity, reminding us that even the most ordinary objects can be transformed into extraordinary art. With Art Objects, every day becomes a playful adventure as the artist beckons us to rediscover the joy in the simple and embrace the artful essence of life's little moments.
The Hoopoe, with its expressive crown of feathers and distinctive appearance, holds a special place in Gerstein's heart. As the national bird of Israel and the only species of its kind in the region, the Hoopoe symbolizes the unique and diverse beauty of the natural world. For Gerstein, birdwatching in Israel evokes images of the Hoopoe, a bird that is both striking and unforgettable in its presence. David Gerstein draws inspiration from the beauty and symbolism of butterflies. For Gerstein, butterflies symbolize freedom, transformation, and new beginnings, much like the experience of opening a window and embracing the world beyond, as seen in Butterflies Window. He has painted hundreds, if not thousands, of butterflies throughout his life, each one representing a unique story, emotion, or moment in time, and often inspired by particular people, such as Butterfly-Hava. Gerstein's Hamsa With Butterflies is not just a beautiful creation; it is also a powerful symbol of hope and protection. "Of all the things butterflies represent to me and others, the most significant meaning is that they, like me, cannot be boxed in. There is no limitation on where the butterfly can fly or what colors they can be. Like in my art, there is no boundary on how many I can paint and what stories they can tell," Gerstein says about Butterfly Cube.
As a child, Gerstein's imagination was vivid, transporting him to a world of colorful creation where he felt suspended between reality and whimsy. Cycling through nature, he would observe the beauty of the natural world, envisioning the butterflies multiplying and dancing around him. This euphoric world of his imagination is the reality he strives to capture in Ride in Euphoria. When painting cyclists in motion, Gerstein explores rhythms and movements in a unique and enjoyable manner, noting how colors and shapes blend and repeat themselves as they move swiftly. This dynamic approach to painting adds a sense of movement and energy to his fruit bowl. Gerstein finds inspiration in the beauty and majesty of birds. Since his childhood, he has been captivated by the natural world, spending countless hours immersed in nature's splendor. For Gerstein, nature is a source of endless fascination and inspiration, a place where time seems to stand still, and every moment is filled with wonder. Losing track of time in nature inspired him to create his clock, aptly titled Nature Time.

Gerstein finds inspiration in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in the realm of sweet and savory delights. His art reflects the joy and beauty found in everyday moments, such as sharing a coffee with a loved one in Up to Date or delighting in a sweet Piece of Cake. Just as he paints each butterfly with care and uniqueness, Gerstein infuses his art with a sense of delicacy and appreciation for life's sweetness. Through his art, he invites viewers to savor the beauty in the world around them and find moments of joy in the simplest of pleasures.
David Gerstein creates art with the intention of spreading joy and love. Just like the two butterflies in Heart-Open Heart, courting each other and fluttering in circles, his art inspires people to open their hearts. While in Dancers - Twisters, two dancers move with energetic grace, their every step an expression of delight and passion. Gerstein's art brings positivity and cheerful energy to any space it inhabits.
When thinking about the rat race Gerstein says, "I see people in gray suits with gray briefcases walking up and up and up, while here I am with my feet in the earth and paint covering my clothes." This contrast between life's many options inspired Gerstein's Head Up & Above.
Gerstein finds inspiration in the simple, joyful moments of life, such as enjoying the sight of a fresh bouquet of Flowers Tulips, taking a Jog in nature, or just sitting back and watching the eclectic passersby on the beach in Tel Aviv Promenade. These everyday scenes fuel his creativity, allowing him to capture the beauty and happiness seen in the ordinary and transform it into vibrant, dynamic art.
