There is no way to paint sunflowers without considering Van Gogh’s masterpiece. As they are not native to Israel, my first experience of sunflowers was through his art. I was drawn in, completely in awe of these delightful, oversized, yellow flowers, and wanted so badly to capture them myself. When I moved to New York for school, I went on a hunt for these prized possessions. In nature, they towered over me in a vase that seemed to make my whole New York apartment glow. Through art, I want to capture their brilliant ambiance and paint them so that they live on forever.
