I wanted to give form to the classic children’s tale, paying homage to the romantic story of the young woman who dreams of a better life—a life filled with an abundance of love and luxury. I felt like the form of a high-heeled shoe was so fitting as it’s inherently feminine, and in the story, Cinderella’s shoe symbolized the inexplicable connection the prince felt toward her when they fell in love. I created the shoe to be transparent, just like the one in the story. The viewer can see through the shoe to the wall behind and the fluttering butterflies throughout. The butterflies within the high-heeled shoe symbolize freedom, beauty, and happiness, all things embodied by the character of Cinderella.
