Upon my son's graduation from high school, I took him to Blue Note in New York City, one of the premiere jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution. To experience the music in this iconic club was like seeing color for the first time. The way the trumpeter danced while playing and the facial expression the pianist made turned the music into a comprehensive experience combining sounds and optics. I wanted to combine these things in my visual interpretation of the music to create an artwork that speaks to musicians the way that their music speaks to an artist.
