This piece started many years ago when I created 5th Avenue A, which reflected my experience in the densely overcrowded city. Since then, my fascination with cities, crowds, and the individuals that make them up hasn’t faltered. Instead, it has grown and developed. The characters have become more refined from the first work, titled 5th Avenue A, to the twenty that have followed. They started as generic, cartoon-like figures, but with each rendition, I began to add more details and personalities to these characters based on real-life people I photographed while traveling. One of my favorite characters here is the woman looking away from us, scratching her head. I have always wondered what it was she was thinking at that very moment.
